Who You'll Be Working With
Kanu & Associates, P.C. is a small firm by design. When you call our office in Goodyear, you are not handed off down a chain of people who have never read your file. You speak with the people actually doing the work on your case — and that starts with Dr. Solomon Kanuan immigration attorney with more than two decades of legal experience.
Our practice covers immigration law, criminal defense, estate planning and business law across Arizona and New Mexico. That mix is deliberate. Immigration problems rarely arrive on their own — a criminal charge, a traffic citation, a family matter or a business filing can all change what is possible for someone's status. Having those areas under one roof means nobody has to explain their situation twice.
On the immigration side, the team handles filings before USCIS, matters in immigration court before EOIR, consular processing, asylum claims, removal defense and deportation cases, E-1 treaty trader visas and investment visas. Alongside that, we take on criminal defense, family law and traffic law matters, prepare practical estate planning documents covering family, property, health care and legacy goals, and advise companies on formation, contracts, compliance and employer immigration needs — residential and commercial alike.
Credentials, Admissions and Education
Clients are entitled to know exactly where their attorney is admitted and what they trained in. Here is the record, in full.
- Admitted by the Supreme Court of Arizona, 2001
- Admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, 2001
- Admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, 2002
- Member, State Bar of New Mexico
- Board Member, State Bar of Arizona, Immigration Law Section
- Juris Doctor, Thomas M. Cooley Law School, 1999
- Master of Commerce in Banking and Business Finance, M.S. University of Baroda, India, 1987
- Bachelor of Arts, Economics (Honors), M.D. University, Rohtak, Haryana, India, 1985
Those three admissions matter in practice. Being admitted in Arizona covers state court work — criminal defense, family law, traffic, estate planning. Admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals means immigration cases that need to move into federal court or up on appeal can stay with the same attorney rather than being passed to someone new at the hardest moment.
The business and finance background is not decorative either. A master's in banking and business finance and an economics degree sit behind the business law and investment visa work — company formation, contracts, compliance, E-1 filings — where the legal question and the commercial question are usually the same question.
Recognition and What Clients Say
Over the years the firm's work has been recognized by peers and by clients. Dr. Kanu was named one of the Top 20 Solo Practitioners in Arizona by the State Bar of Arizona in 2012, was rated an Excellent Lawyer by Avvo in 2011, and received the Client's Choice award in 2020. He also serves as a Board Member of the State Bar of Arizona's Immigration Law Section.
The firm holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 152 reviewswith 133 written reviews clients have left about their experience. Two of them give a fair sense of what people tend to mention:
The very best Immigration attorney out there. Excellent and very exceptional. What sets Dr. Kanu apart is his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to his clients' success.
Mr. Kanu and his team did an amazing job.
The phrase that comes up most often is attention to detail — which, in immigration filings especially, is usually the difference between an approval and a denial. We'd rather be the firm that asks one more question than the firm that files one day sooner.
