Helping Families Stay Together
Family is one of the most important reasons people seek immigration benefits in the United States. Whether you are a U.S. citizen hoping to petition for a spouse, child, parent, or sibling, or a lawful permanent resident trying to help a loved one immigrate, the process takes careful planning and a great deal of documentation. Small errors cost months. Bigger ones can cost years.
At Kanu & Associates, P.C.we help families work through the immigration system with compassion, attention to detail, and a clear strategy. Our founding attorney brings more than two decades of legal experience and serves as a Board Member of the State Bar of Arizona's Immigration Law Section. We represent families throughout Arizona and New Mexico.

Marriage-Based Immigration
Marriage-based cases require more than simply proving that a couple is legally married. USCIS or a U.S. consulate may ask for evidence that the marriage is real, ongoing, and entered into in good faith. That standard surprises a lot of couples who assumed a marriage certificate would be enough.
We help couples put together strong filings supported by organized documentation — evidence of shared residence, joint finances, family life, communication, travel, children, photographs, and other proof of the relationship. We also prepare couples for what the interview is actually like, so the questions do not come as a shock.
If your two-year green card is approaching its expiration, the removal of conditions filing is its own project with its own evidence requirements. We handle those as well.
Parents, Children, and Other Relatives
Family immigration also covers petitions for parents, children, stepchildren, and siblings. Each category carries different requirements, different wait times, and different possible immigration consequences. A sibling petition and a petition for the parent of a U.S. citizen are not remotely the same process, even though the paperwork looks similar at a glance.
Before anything gets filed, it is worth understanding three things: whether the relative actually qualifies in the category you have in mind, whether they can apply from inside the United States or must go through a consulate abroad, and whether a waiver or some additional strategy will be needed along the way. Answering those questions first is what keeps a case from stalling later.
Avoiding Mistakes in Family Immigration Cases
Family-based cases get complicated fast when there are issues involving unlawful presence, prior entries, misrepresentation, criminal history, prior removal orders, visa overstays, or previously denied applications. In some situations, filing the wrong application at the wrong time can expose a family member to consequences that were avoidable.
That is why our firm reviews each client's full immigration history before recommending a filing strategy. We would rather spend an extra hour understanding your record than file something that creates a new problem. If your case also touches criminal defense, removal defense, or family law, we handle those matters in-house too.
