Starting a Business the Right Way
Filing articles of organization online takes about twenty minutes. Fixing a business that was set up carelessly can take years — and usually costs far more than doing it properly the first time. Partners who never wrote down what they agreed to. An operating agreement copied from a template that doesn't match the state. Personal and company money mixed in one account until the liability shield means nothing.
Kanu & Associates, P.C. helps companies form properly, manage contracts, maintain compliance, and address employer immigration needs. We work with clients across Arizona and New Mexicoon both residential and commercial matters, and we take the time to understand what you're actually trying to build before we recommend a structure.
Attorney Solomon Kanu brings more than two decades of legal experience to that conversation. Before law school he earned a Master of Commerce in Banking and Business Finance from M.S. University of Baroda, India, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics Honors from M.D. University in Rohtak, Haryana — so the financial side of a new company isn't unfamiliar territory.
What We Handle
Formation is the starting point, not the whole job. Most clients come to us with one question and leave with a short list of things they hadn't thought about yet.
- Choosing an entity — LLC, corporation, or partnership — based on how you'll be taxed, who's investing, and what you plan to do with the business later
- Preparing and filing formation documents in Arizona or New Mexico
- Operating agreements and bylaws that reflect what the owners actually agreed to
- Partner and shareholder arrangements, including what happens if someone wants out
- Contracts: client agreements, vendor terms, leases, independent contractor agreements
- Ongoing compliance so your filings and records stay current
- Employer immigration needs, including work authorization and employment-based visa questions
- Commercial and residential property matters tied to your business
If a dispute or a contract problem has already landed on your desk, call us about that too. It's easier to address early.
Employer Immigration and Hiring Questions
This is where a firm like ours is genuinely useful. Immigration law has been the core of our practice for years — we handle filings before USCIS, immigration court matters before EOIR, consular processing, asylum, removal defense, E-1 visas and investment visas. So when a business owner asks whether they can sponsor a key employee, or an investor asks how a new Arizona entity fits with their visa plans, those two conversations happen with the same attorney in the same meeting.
Solomon Kanu serves as a Board Member of the State Bar of Arizona's Immigration Law Section. He is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Arizona (2001), the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona (2001), and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (2002), and is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico. He earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1999.
What sets Dr. Kanu apart is his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to his clients' success.
