Why Clients Choose Kanu & Associates

Over two decades of legal experience in immigration, criminal defense, estate planning and business law across AZ and NM. Call (602) 324-5320.

Choosing a lawyer is rarely a comfortable decision. You're usually doing it in the middle of something stressful — a notice from USCIS, a court date, a parent's declining health, a business problem that won't wait. What follows isn't a sales pitch. It's just a straight account of who we are, so you can decide whether we're the right fit for whatever brought you here.

Experience That Spans More Than Two Decades

Dr. Solomon Kanu has been practicing law for more than two decades. He earned his Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 1999 and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of Arizona in 2001. Before law, he studied economics and finance — a Bachelor of Arts in Economics Honors from M.D. University in Rohtak, Haryana, India in 1985, and a Master of Commerce in Banking and Business Finance from the University of Baroda in 1987.

That background matters more than it might sound. Immigration cases often turn on financial documentation. Business formation questions are frequently as much accounting as law. Estate planning is, at bottom, a conversation about money and property. Having someone who reads a balance sheet as comfortably as a statute tends to shorten the explanation.

What Clients Actually Say

Kanu & Associates holds a 4.3 out of 5 rating from 152 reviewswith 133 of those reviews written out in full. We'd rather you read them yourself than take our summary of them, but here is one that gets at what we try to do every day.

The very best Immigration attorney out there. Excellent and very exceptional. What sets Dr. Kanu apart is his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to his clients' success.

Attention to detail is the part we'd underline. In immigration work especially, cases are lost over missing signatures, wrong filing fees, and deadlines counted incorrectly. We check, and then we check again. The firm was also named Client's Choice 2020which is an award based entirely on what clients wrote.

Where We're Admitted and Recognized

Admissions and honors aren't the whole story, but they tell you where we can actually appear on your behalf and whether our peers take the work seriously.

  • Supreme Court of Arizona — admitted 2001
  • U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona — admitted 2001
  • U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit — admitted 2002
  • State Bar of New Mexico, Member
  • State Bar of Arizona, Immigration Law Section — Board Member
  • Top 20 Solo Practitioners in Arizona, State Bar of Arizona, 2012
  • Excellent Lawyer, Avvo, 2011

The Ninth Circuit admission is worth a note. Immigration appeals from Arizona go there, so if a case needs to travel up from the immigration court through the Board of Immigration Appeals and into the federal appellate system, we don't have to hand you off to another firm partway. Serving on the Immigration Law Section board of the State Bar of Arizona also means we're in regular contact with the people shaping and interpreting this area of practice in the state.

Four Practice Areas, One Office

We handle immigration law — filings before USCIS, immigration court matters before EOIR, consular processing, asylum, E-1 visas, investment visas, and removal defense and deportation cases. We handle criminal defenseincluding traffic law. We handle estate planningpreparing practical documents built around your family, property, health care, and legacy goals. We handle business law — formation, contracts, compliance, and employer immigration needs. We also take on family law matters, and we work with both residential and commercial clients.

These areas overlap far more often than people expect. A criminal charge can wreck a green card application. A business owner sponsoring an employee needs both immigration and corporate advice. A family putting an estate plan together may have members with different immigration statuses. When one office handles all of it, nobody has to explain your situation twice, and nothing falls between two sets of advisors.

We practice throughout Arizona and New Mexico from our office at 15150 W Pk Pl Ste 215-2064, Goodyear, AZ 85395. Our approach is simple and hasn't changed in twenty-plus years: take the time to understand what you're trying to achieve, explain your options in plain language, and help you move forward with confidence. If that sounds like what you need, call (602) 324-5320 or email solomon@kanulaw.com. We're open Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm.
