Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about immigration, criminal defense, estate planning and business law at Kanu & Associates. Call (602) 324-5320.

Most people who call us have never hired a lawyer before, and the first conversation usually starts with the same handful of questions. We've gathered them here so you can get a sense of how we work before you pick up the phone. If your situation isn't covered below, call (602) 324-5320 and ask — we'd rather answer a question than have you guess.

Working With Our Firm

Kanu & Associates, P.C. provides practical, client-focused legal representation in immigration law, estate planning, and business law throughout Arizona and New Mexico. We also handle criminal defense, family law and traffic matters. The common thread is that we take the time to understand your goals, explain your options in plain language, and help you move forward with confidence.

Our office is at 15150 W Pk Pl Ste 215-2064, Goodyear, AZ 85395. We're open Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, and closed on weekends. You can reach us by phone at (602) 324-5320 or by email at solomon@kanulaw.com. If you email over the weekend, expect a response when the office reopens on Monday.

Dr. Kanu brings more than two decades of legal experience to every matter. That experience shapes how we triage a case: we tell you early what the realistic paths are, what each one costs you in time and money, and which one we'd choose if it were our family.

Immigration Questions

Immigration is the largest part of our practice. We assist individuals, families, and employers with filings before USCIS, immigration court matters before EOIR, and consular processing. That includes asylum claims, removal defense and deportation cases, E-1 treaty trader visas, and investment visas for people bringing capital into the United States.

  • Family and individual filings — petitions, applications and supporting evidence prepared and submitted to USCIS
  • Immigration court — representation before EOIR, including removal defense and deportation proceedings
  • Asylum — affirmative and defensive claims
  • Consular processing — cases that run through a U.S. consulate abroad
  • Employer immigration — company-side needs handled alongside our business law work
  • Visa categories including E-1 and investment visas

Two questions come up constantly. The first is how long will this take? — and the honest answer depends on the filing type and the agency's current backlog, not on anything a lawyer controls. The second is do I have a case at all? We'd rather tell you no early than take money for a filing that won't go anywhere.

Estate Planning, Business and Criminal Defense

On the estate planning side, we help clients prepare practical documents designed around their family, property, health care, and legacy goals. We work with both residential and commercial property. You don't need to be wealthy to need a plan — you need to have people who depend on you, or property you care where it goes.

For businesses, we help companies form properly, manage contracts, maintain compliance, and address employer immigration needs. Many of our business clients came to us first for an immigration matter and stayed for the corporate work, because it's the same firm reading both sides of the file.

We also handle criminal defense, family law and traffic matters. If you're facing a criminal charge and you're not a U.S. citizen, the two issues are tangled together — the outcome of the criminal case can change your immigration status. Having one firm watching both at once matters.
